Weight Watchers Here I Come…Again!

June 8th, 2012

With summer upon us (and my little announcement), I am putting away the casserole dishes for awhile and will instead be making lighter cuisine.  Here’s a long explanation as to why…

Every year when we take our family vacation to Florida, I carve out a little time to spend with my friend Ina who was my best girl friend when I lived there.  As with most of my friends, our absolute favorite topic of conversation is our weight!  We literally spend hours complaining about our weight, food, exercising, dieting, etc.  And this visit was no different.  As we swapped stories of our adventures in dieting, I told her of the time I was able to comfortably wear skinny jeans after I had gone back to Weight Watchers meeting for only a few weeks.

“Why don’t you go back?” she asked me.

Of course I had a litany of excuses. “Well, the meeting center is 20 minutes from my house.”

“So,” she replied.

“But, the only time I can go is early Saturday morning and its hard to get out of bed in time,” I continued.

“So,” she replied.

“And I don’t feel like spending the money,” I said.

“So,” she replied again, “wouldn’t you rather drive out of your way, get up early and spend some money if it means you can be thinner?”

She was right.

And that is when I had my “a-ha” moment.

One year prior and the year before that, I was complaining to her about if I could only lose 15 pounds.  So was I going to complain again to her next year?  Or was I finally going to do something about it?  Why am I letting these little obstacles hold me back from feeling comfortable in my own skin.

I’m grateful to her for helping me see the light.

When I got back home, I found out there was a meeting during the lunch hour that is very close to where I work.  For extra accountability and support, I recruited a co-worker who has been trying to lose weight to join me.

Yesterday we went to our first meeting.  Well, her first meeting.  My first meeting in a long time.

Even though I am a Lifetime Member, I have to pay until I am within 2 pounds of my goal weight.  But no biggie!  Its worth the money.  I have lost weight on the Weight Watchers program without going to meetings, but that was when I was single, had no kids and living with my mom.  Then my world revolved around me.  Its different now and I need a bit more help to stay focused on a goal.

I don’t see this as a diet.  I see this as a total lifestyle change.  And a change in the right direction!  I want to be a healthy, active person and by following the Weight Watchers program, I can be!

So my recipes are going to be a bit more healthier and I will be providing the PointsPlus 2012 value per serving.

My weigh-in day will be Thursdays so I will be reporting my progress on those days.

Wish me luck and if anybody has any questions or is interested in learning more about Weight Watchers, please send me an email at margaret@vegetariancasserolequeen.com!
